Why this site exists
Incline Village is small, and a lot happens here. The road over the mountain closes. A smoky week changes your plans. A town board votes on a fee. Most of it sits on a dozen websites, in a dozen formats.
We put it in one place, in plain words. We write for two kinds of readers. The people who live here want to know what the board decided and what it costs. The people visiting want to know if the road is open and the beach has room.
The four desks
Every story carries the name of the desk that wrote it.
- The Lake desk. The lake, the beaches, the water and the weather over them.
- The Town Hall desk. IVGID, Washoe County, permits, housing and the rules that touch your bill.
- The Mountain desk. Snow, ski areas, Mt Rose Highway and the backcountry.
- The Table desk. Where to eat and drink, new places and the events worth going to.
What we are not
We are not an emergency alert system. For evacuations, follow the fire district and county alerts. We are not a listing site for homes, and we are not a review site for restaurants.
How we work
Software reads public feeds and drafts the short stories from a pack of sourced facts. A check compares every sentence to its source before it goes live. Meeting summaries are checked against the minutes. The rules are in the editorial policy.
Our numbers
When we say the lake is warmer than last year, that is our own math on our saved history. Each page ends with a short note called How we know. It says where the numbers came from. The list of feeds is on the sources page. The data freshness page says which feeds are fresh right now.
Photos
Every photo is credited to its owner on the credits page. An owner who wants a photo removed gets it taken down the same day.
