How to find your pickup day

Your day depends on your street. WM has no public street list. Use one of these.

  1. Sign in to My WM at wm.com. Pick View Pickup Schedule and ETA. Enter your address and select Verify.
  2. Or call the WM office at (775) 831-2971.

The same day applies every week. Put the cart at the curb by 7 AM, with the wheels against the curb. Take it in the same day. Missed pickup? Report it in My WM within 3 days.

Yard debris pickup

The yard debris program runs 16 weeks a year. WM and IVGID set the dates each year. The dates change each year, so call WM at (775) 831-2971 before you bag. It runs on your regular pickup day. It costs residential customers nothing.

  • Use compostable bags only. Tie each one. No bag may top 40 pounds.
  • Put one yard debris sticker on each bag. Each home gets 96 stickers a year.
  • Pine needles, pine cones, garden waste, small bushes, twigs, lawn trimmings, wood chips and bark are fine.
  • Branches over 3 feet wide or tall, dirt, rocks, food and trash are not.
  • A bag with no sticker, or left out of season, is trash. WM adds a per bag charge, and IVGID can fine you.
  • Wet bags wait until they dry.

You can also take stickered bags to the transfer station. Show your IVGID card. A pickup truck load of loose debris takes 12 stickers. Extra stickers are sold at the WM office, 1076 Tahoe Blvd.

Christmas trees go out on your regular day during one set week. Ask WM for the week.

For dead trees and branches under 6 inches wide, North Lake Tahoe Fire gives free chipping. It is a separate request.

What changes on Jan 1, 2027

On Aug 12, 2026 the IVGID board voted 4-0 to approve a new 10 year trash contract. The new Waste Management service starts Jan 1, 2027. Here is what it means for you.

  • New carts arrive this fall. WM delivers them. You choose 64 or 96 gallons.
  • Every home needs a bear shed or a wildlife-resistant cart. The lid must close and latch.
  • A bear shed customer puts all garbage in a container inside the shed. WM empties it and puts it back.
  • Yard debris bags must be compostable. Black plastic bags are out. The district wants to keep microplastics out of the watershed.
  • Weekly recycling stays. Keep it loose, not bagged, and clean of food.
  • A 5% cap on yearly rate increases tied to inflation.
  • Scales at the transfer station, with updates every 3 months from the company.

Until Jan 1, keep using your current can. The board also updated its trash ordinance the same day, in a 4-0 vote. Read more in IVGID meetings.
