Where Incline Village is
Incline Village is on Lake Tahoe's north shore, in Washoe County, Nevada.
The town center is at 6,350 feet. The place covers about 21.7 square miles. Its ZIP code is 89451.
A place, but not a city government
The Census calls Incline Village a census-designated place. That term means it is an area used for census counts. Incline Village is unincorporated. It has no city government and no mayor. It is still a named place where people live, go to school and use local services.
Washoe County and IVGID have different roles here. IVGID is the Incline Village General Improvement District. It provides water, sewer, trash and recreation for Incline Village and Crystal Bay. Those services do not make IVGID a city government.
The IVGID guide explains the district. Our meeting coverage is a place to read about its public work.
The population count and its date
The 2020 Census counted 9,462 people in Incline Village. It is not a live total.
Crystal Bay has been counted separately since the 2010 Census. So the 9,462 does not include Crystal Bay, even though IVGID serves both.
Use the US Census Bureau to read the count with its place name and year.
How the town got its name
Incline Village was established in 1882. The Sierra Nevada Wood and Lumber Company logged in the area. The name came from its incline railway. Timber supplied the Comstock Lode mines near Virginia City.
The post office opened on February 7, 1884. Wikipedia's town entry is the source for this history and the basic geography above.
Schools and the lake campus
Incline Elementary, Incline Middle and Incline High are in the Washoe County School District. The town also has a private school for kindergarten through eighth grade.
The University of Nevada, Reno has a lake campus here, formerly Sierra Nevada University.
This guide does not list current school hours, enrollment dates or fees. Those can change. Use the school district, private school and the university for those details.
